When you think of a stereotypical young person today, most images conjured would involve someone sitting at home with a mobile device glued to their hand.

But three boys from Boonah are doing their part to change that image and promote a healthy lifestyle in an outdoor setting.

With nearly 20 000 followers, the Sons of Adventure Instagram account has fans in Europe, America and across Australia.

The account follows the adventures of Zach, 13, Eli, 11, and Cadel, 9, as they explore various stunning locations around the Scenic Rim and south-east Queensland.

Since then they have taken trips as far away as Mount Kosciuszko and Noosa, but destinations closer to home remain their favourite.

“While camping overnight in the Snowy Mountains and sea kayaking in Moreton Bay are some great memories for us we continue to come back to local places for more adventures,” he said.

“The swimming holes near Mount Barney, the Flinders Peak track and Mount Tamborine are beautiful and we can’t help but want to get back to those places as often as possible.”

Mr Bennie said the feedback they have received has been amazing.

“We have had an excellent response, especially on Instagram,” he said.

“As a platform people seem to respond really well there and it is all very positive.

“We’ve received messages from all types of parents, single mothers and fathers as well as older parents, that have been inspired by our posts to get outside and explore different parts of the Scenic Rim.”

The irony of promoting an outdoor lifestyle on a social media application is not lost on Mr Bennie.

“It’s the way of the world now and to be successful in promoting this lifestyle we need to be present in a space that people inhabit,” he said.

“We live in an amazing part of the world and we want to show families you can get out there with your kids and enjoy the environment.”
